Hanger Series (1993)

The Hanger series were the first complete series I painted in my home studio after returning to England from living in Barcelona. A literal image of a coat hanger was the motif for the paintings.  During a time of personal transition it was a way to combat what could easily have been ‘Artist’s Block’.   It was a good move,  mentally and visually I discovered new ways of working, and after having been in Barcelona I'd found a new way of connecting with my painting

I  was also amused to play with the notion of hanging the inspiration for a paintings on a ‘Hanger’.
