Detitled Series (1995/6)

In my studio some paintings begin with a subject or idea while others just start. This is a fluid process in constant flux.

Some days the painting process flows smoothly, some days the process is a struggle. For the duration of the painting process I’m in the habit of calling each work by a name that suggests itself as identity.

For the De-titled paintings I was mentally playing with the notion of The Lost Library at Alexandria.  On this occasion the working identity didn't didn’t seem to fit as a title, so unlike some work where the title is abandoned in favour of a more relevant one. This series remains ‘De-Titled’ to acknowledge that in this process the working title has been abandoned but no new title given.
