Destination Unknown

Destination Unknown Series of paintings and other artworks, had their basis in my interest in grid structures. Repetition is an element of a grid structure that I’ve explored in lots of my studio work.

Working on Destination Unknown I tried out lots of different materials' especially materials that came in multiples. These multiple materials, such as the labels coated or ‘wrapped’ in encaustic (wax), created another level of ‘grid’ quality. In other words they are like the individual sectors of a grid and function as container or excluder with the film of encaustic behaving like the lines of a grid.

Words are abstractions with a given form and meaning. A label tied to something is normally a way of providing information. An address label usually has a destination. In this work the contradiction is between the labels and words.

There was a biographical element in The Destination Unknown artworks. What the biographical element was is between me and the artworks.
