Labelling Barcelona

In Barcelona I tied labels to doors and window-grills. Each label identified with the Street location as well as the name of the object the label was tied to. If the label was tied to a door knob, then that is what what written on the label. Writing was in Spanish one side and English the other; sometimes a mixture of both languages.

Labelling was a form of mapping. It was part of my studio work, it was also an intermication.

When I attached the labels it was with the intention of returning a week later to collect the ones that survived. However, In the interim I was mugged and lost my bag with money, keys to my flat, and passport. I fought with the muggers but to no avail because they still managed to steal my bag.

Besides the upset, the robbery caused me quite a few problems. On the positive side it led me to using free materials in the form of cardboard to work on in the studio.

I never did collect the remaining labels.

I sometimes wonder what anyone finding the labels thought they were for.
