About - Cities - Paintings
Context:
The Cities paintings grew from the artist’s engagement with the intangible character of urban places, those elements felt rather than seen. Each painting shaped by time spent moving through the cities absorbing their rhythms, histories, and contradictions.
At the core of the series is the idea of duality. Every city exists simultaneously above and below ground, the visible architecture and daily movement layered over hidden infrastructures, buried histories, and unseen lives. These parallel worlds inform the compositions, where surface structures intersect with submerged forms, fragmented lines, and shifting depths.
These paintings translate cities into abstract visual languages, gestural, layered, and dynamic. Colour, texture, and spatial tension are used to evoke atmosphere and memory, allowing each painting to function as both a personal response and an open-ended experience for the viewer. The cities are not represented as fixed places, but as living systems in constant flux.
