About Forkostraph & Tords
A coloured totem pole with writing on it, writing that cannot be understood. The totem dissects a box that looks like a small cupboard with the totem protruding through the top and bottom.
There is writing on the totem and coloured barbed wire protecting it inside the box. The writing is in a language called Forkostraph a language that can’t be understood.
What does the writing mean? Does it mean something and can it be deciphered? If there is no one to translate it how will we know? For all we know the writing could be the secret to the meaning of life or some other protected secret, it could be a string of swearing, or the latest knock knock joke.
What if the writing is meaningless? Is there meaning in meaningless and are there layers of meanings in something that was intended to have no meaning?
Writing is yet another form of drawing or mark-making, it has a set form for the letters. If we look at a written language that cannot be understood, there’s only the form of the script or pattern to see, so what if the marks are only intended to look like writing?
We create meaning in the world even when we choose to use words that have no meaning.
