Co-ordinates from a Call of Nature painting
In the spring and summer of 2013, when my late husband had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and before his care took most of my time, I found unexpected comfort in wandering the quiet corners of South Northamptonshire on my own. Painting became my way of connecting deeply with nature—a private ritual where I could reflect, sketch, and occasionally answer nature’s calls quite literally! These little moments of spontaneity felt almost sacred, like leaving a secret signature on the land, echoing the marks I was making on my canvas. In my studio, I hid the exact spots of these special places beneath layers of paint, only revealing them as each painting neared completion—a map of my quiet communion with the landscape.
