Feral Tyres from the artist's studio
Feral Tyres paintings, came from my peregrinations around the Edgelands surrounding the town of Northampton. Peregrinations prompted by the book "Edgelands" by Paul Farley & Michael Symmons-Roberts.
The liminal space between urban and rural areas offered a novel perspective when I paused to truly observe its contents instead of merely passing through. Among various discoveries, I encountered what I began to call "feral tyres," discarded beneath a sign ironically prohibiting fly tipping. This juxtaposition sparked my artistic imagination. I created paintings depicting these tyres, using a floor mop to capture their essence in an almost abandoned manner reflective of the surroundings I’d seen them in. In addition, I created a tyre installation, so was able to further explore the interplay between art and the discarded remnants of urban life.
